First of all, it's the Daily Mail. Second of all, any drastic change to your diet is going to result in behavioural changes. But, having said all that, it's an interesting read about what happens to two families who swap from junk food to organic and vice versa.

"t's strange that you can't actually smell food in a supermarket - I guess because most of it is so tightly packaged. William makes a homemade pizza once a week, which we all love - so our first mission was to buy a ready-made version.

[...]

The children were allowed to pick whatever they liked and quickly scooped up packets of chocolate coated cereal, bags of crisps, a huge bottle of lemonade (they only drink fruit juice or water at home) and Cheese Strings - which they had seen on TV at a friends house (we don't own a TV)."

Interesting article. Amazing the power of advertising on the kids, who knew exactly what junk food to pick out!

What I'm always surprised about is how the kids always agree to eat the healthier food. I cook everything fresh for our son, but he only eats very specific things and other than a tomato, onion and pepper sauce I make, I can't get him to eat any form of veg (fruit is easy though - he can't get enough bananas and loves apples and melons) - a tiny bit of carrot or courgette and he wont eat more. Raw veg - we'll he'll put them on my plate!

Having said that, apparently he eats it all at nursery, so prehaps I'm just too soft and he knows he'll get something he likes later in the day (even if it is bread and marmite!)

children have far more sensitive taste buds which is why the strong flavours of vegetables often put them off. Junk food has a lot of artificial flavours so they know what they like.
