It seems that businesses in Kent are planing a £30m eco-friendly business park called SusCon (sustainable construction centre), due to open by 2010:
"It will house laboratories to research and design new energy-efficient building methods in a bid to make the UK first with green technology.
It is proposed there will be a centre where tradesmen can gain qualifications and skills needed to work with energy- efficient products such as solar panels."
The centre itself aims to use straw insulation and wind turbines to stay green. Although, it's not quite such a rosy picture as that outline suggests, Kent County Council has only received £156,000 from the South East England Developlent Agency, in line with the Government's ambition to increase energy efficiniency by 2010. It's is down to Kent County Council to convince private investors to help raise the £30m required to complete the project.
Encouragingly for North Kent, 'possible sites include Ebbsfleet, Swanscombe and Northfleet Embankment. North Kent has been chosen for its close links with London and Europe and the number of building projects going on', which fits well with our own opinion of Kent playing a key part in the Green South East.
The SusCon building will be designed to be energy efficient, with additions such as straw insulation and wind turbines.
