I practiced Iyengar yoga for a number of years and since then have attended a number of more general Astanga or Hatha classes. I have to say that for anyone wanting to take yoga seriously to improve fitness and strength without any risk of any injury, Iyengar is by far the best. You know you've worked, but becuase of all of the training the teachers have to undergo (years, plus years of practice) you know you are in safe hands.
Be prepared to need a mat, blocks, belt, cushions, use chairs.... the list of equipment can be quite long, but it's all to aid you to get the most out of the postures (asanas)

Somehow I prefer types of yoga that you don't need any attributres with, to make it easier and simpler to do.
