Reading event "Lapland UK" - Reply to this / 0 comment(s)
I picked up on this a few weeks ago in the Guardian and it's taken me a while to put it on line.... it's right in our area.... a green family event.
The "event" has been set up by Mike Battle - he wanted to set up the true Christmas Experiene without having a negative impact on the environment that flying to Lapland involves.
In an area of forest near Tunbridge Wells, he is setting up an eco Lapland complete with paper and seaweed based snow (it biodegrades without causing any damage... in fact i should think it's good mulch!); reindeers; huskies and of course Father Christmas himself. Children receive their invites before the visit, while parents provide background information via a questionaire, to ensure that appropriate gifts are given. You're even "transported" to Lapland on arrival.
It sounds like a magical experience for young children and although it's not cheap (£50 is mentioned in the article) it's certainly less than flying to Finland and MUCH better for the environment
