It's true that anythin is big enough - remember growing cress in empty egg shells at school?
It's much easier to protect against slugs (my main problem) with pots and to ensure that the earth is nutritious. The challenge is to keep the moisture at the right level.

I'd forgotten about growing in egg shells! That was a wonderful learning experience, I shall have to try it with my own children. Thanks for reminding me.
